Introduction to Mental Health Awareness for Organisations
Course Length: 3 hours face-to-face
This course teaches participants:
- an overview of the prevalence of mental illness
- introduction into common mental illnesses
- how and why mental illness occurs
- tips for managers and colleagues
This course was developed by our Principal Trainer Caroline Jones BSc.(Psych) and is not an Accredited Mental Health First Aid Australia course.

Mental Health First Aid Training
Course Length: 12 hours over 2 days face-to-face
Mental Health First Aid is the help provided to a person who is developing a mental health problem, experiencing a worsening of a mental health problem, or in a mental health crisis.
Course topics include:
- developing mental health problems, depression, anxiety problems, psychosis and substance use problems
- Mental Health Crisis situations including suicidal thoughts and behaviours, panic attacks, trauma and severe psychotic states
Participants will each receive a pack containing the
- Standard Mental Health First Aid Manual
- Beyond Blue resources and publications
- Additional information on local professional services
At the completion of this course, all participants are eligible to become Accredited Mental Health First Aiders for no additional cost.

Standard Refresher Training
Course Length: 4 hours face to face
This course is for participants who have attended the 12-hour Standard Mental Health First Aid Course within the previous 3 years.
Course topics include:
- up to date research in mental health and mental illness
- Learn the 3 key actions for helping someone feeling suicidal
- Work through complex mental health first aid interactions
- Practice mental health first aid skills
Participants will each receive a pack containing the
- Standard Mental Health First Aid Manual
- Beyond Blue resources and publications
- Additional information on local professional services
Participants completing this course are eligible to become re-accredited Mental Health First Aiders for a further 3 years.
Prerequisite: Participants must have completed the 12-hour Standard Mental Health First Aid training within the last 3 years.

Mental Health First Aid for Non-Suicidal Self Injury
Course Length: 4 hours face-to-face
This course teaches participants how to help someone who is engaging in self-injury:
Skills taught include:
- Why people engage in self-injury
- How to talk to someone about their self-injury
- How to help the person stay safe
- How to assess for suicidal thoughts and behaviours
- How to connect the person to appropriate professional help
Participants will receive the Mental Health First Aid for Non-Suicidal Self Injury handbook and additional resources

Mental Health First Aid for the Suicidal Person
Course Length: 4 hours face-to-face
This course has been developed by both professional and consumer experts from English speaking developed countries.
You will learn:
- How to identify warning signs for suicide
- How to confidently support a person in crisis
- How to have a conversation with someone experiencing suicidal thoughts and behaviours
At the completion of the course you will be equipped with the skills and knowledge to safely have a conversation with a suicidal person.
Participants will receive the Mental Health First Aid for the Suicidal Person handbook and additional resources.
